Linux administration services

Linux administration services for servers in the cloud and in data centres: Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux set up, patched, hardened and monitored, web and database servers configured, backups tested and end-of-life systems upgraded, with dedicated Linux administrators for your team or ongoing Linux support.

Linux administration we take on

  • Server builds and configuration

Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, SUSE and Amazon Linux servers built from a documented baseline, joined to FreeIPA or Active Directory through SSSD, and configured by Ansible so a rebuild comes out the same.

  • Patching and kernel updates

Security updates applied on a schedule with unattended-upgrades or dnf-automatic, kernel fixes without a reboot through Canonical Livepatch or kpatch where uptime requires it, and larger updates tried on a test group first.

  • Server hardening to CIS Benchmarks

Servers checked with OpenSCAP or Lynis against the CIS Benchmarks, SSH keys or certificates in place of passwords, SELinux or AppArmor enforcing, auditd records sent where administrators cannot edit them, and a firewall that denies by default.

  • Monitoring and log shipping

Prometheus node exporter, Zabbix or your cloud’s agent watching CPU, memory, disks, services and certificate expiry, and journald and application logs shipped to Loki, Elastic or your SIEM, with a runbook beside every alert.

  • Web, proxy and database servers

nginx, Apache, HAProxy and Caddy configured and tuned, TLS certificates renewed automatically through ACME as their maximum lifetime drops to 100 days in March 2027, and PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and Redis or Valkey installed, replicated and backed up.

  • Upgrades off end-of-life releases

Servers on releases past end of life, such as CentOS Linux 7 and Amazon Linux 2, upgraded in place with Leapp or ELevate where a supported path exists, or rebuilt on a current release, with each service tested before the cut-over.

  • Containers and virtualisation hosts

Docker and Podman hosts, KVM and Proxmox VE hypervisors, and LVM, ZFS and NFS storage, run and documented, with applications moved into containers when they are ready for it.

  • Backups with tested restores

File and database backups with restic, BorgBackup or Bacula, or your cloud’s snapshots, copied away from the server and restored on a schedule, so the recovery time is measured rather than assumed.

  • Performance troubleshooting

Slow servers diagnosed with perf, eBPF tools, iostat and vmstat, kernel and sysctl settings tuned for the workload, and each root cause written up so the same problem does not return.

Hire Linux administrators

  • Dedicated Linux administrators

Linux administrators who join your team full time, work in your tools and process, and report to your lead. You interview them; we carry the Ukrainian contract, payroll, invoicing and leave.

  • Linux administration projects

A defined piece of Linux administration with a scope, a fixed plan and a named lead on our side who owns the result and reports progress in your channels.

  • Ongoing Linux administration

Linux administration as a continuing service: the same people every month, a backlog you prioritise, and hours you can see in our portal and on the invoice.

The dedicated team page explains how specialists join your team, and the outsourcing page covers project delivery, take-overs and how we charge.

How we run Linux servers

Configuration lives in Ansible and Git rather than in shell history, so any server can be rebuilt from what is written down and every change is reviewed before it reaches production. Administrators sign in through named accounts with SSH certificates or keys and sudo rights scoped to the task, and privileged commands are logged where the administrator cannot erase them.

On servers another team built, we start with a read-only review of releases, open ports, accounts, patch levels and backups, and a written list of risks in order of impact. The agent we wrote in Rust to check our own laptops against our security baseline runs on Ubuntu as well as on Windows and macOS.

Questions about Linux administration

Which industries do your Linux administrators work in?

Mostly hosting, cloud and telecom providers running large fleets of servers for their customers; fintech and banking, with hardened and audited servers; industrial, manufacturing and energy companies with Linux in plants and control rooms; security companies; advertising and marketing technology firms with high-traffic servers; e-commerce and healthcare; and public-sector systems.

Which Linux distributions do you support?

Ubuntu and Debian; Red Hat Enterprise Linux and the compatible Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux and Oracle Linux; SUSE Linux Enterprise and openSUSE; and Amazon Linux. Servers on current releases are kept patched, and older ones are supported while they are being upgraded.

Can you look after our servers out of hours?

Yes. Monitoring and scheduled patching run around the clock, and an on-call administrator can be part of the agreement, with the hours covered, the response time for each severity and the escalation path into your team agreed in writing before it starts.

How quickly can Linux administrators start?

When the right Linux administrator is available, the start is gated only by your interview and the NDA and IP assignment. Otherwise we run a search, which typically produces candidate profiles within two to three weeks, and nobody starts until you have said yes.

How do we hire Linux administrators through BigTree108?

Tell us the work, the seniority and the hours you need. We propose one or two people with their profiles, you interview them the way you would interview your own hire, and you sign one agreement with BIG TREE 108 LLC and receive one invoice a month.

Who owns the work they produce?

You do. Every specialist has a signed contract with BigTree108 that assigns all work product to the company, and our agreement with you assigns it onward. Code, designs and documents are delivered into your own repositories and tools, not kept where only we can change them.

Need someone to look after your Linux servers?

Tell us how many servers you run, which distributions and where they are hosted. You get an answer within one business day: a plan for the work, a scope for a review, or candidate profiles.
