Database development and administration services

Database development and administration on SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Redis and other relational and NoSQL engines: schema design, SQL and stored procedures, query tuning, migrations and upgrades, encryption, backups and high availability, with dedicated database developers and DBAs for your team or a database project delivered end to end.

Database work we take on

  • Schema design and migrations

Relational models designed around how the data is queried, with every schema change a versioned migration in EF Core, Flyway, Liquibase or Alembic that runs in the pipeline rather than by hand in production.

  • SQL and stored procedures

T-SQL, PL/SQL and PL/pgSQL procedures, functions and views for business logic, reporting and batch jobs, reviewed like application code and covered by tests in tSQLt, utPLSQL or pgTAP.

  • Query and performance tuning

Slow queries found through Query Store, pg_stat_statements and execution plans, then fixed with indexes, rewrites or statistics, with timings measured before and after.

  • Backups, availability and monitoring

Point-in-time restore, replicas, Always On availability groups or Patroni clusters and failover set to the recovery targets you agree, with restores tested on a schedule and alerts on blocking, deadlocks, replication lag and storage.

  • MongoDB and document databases

MongoDB, Azure Cosmos DB, Amazon DynamoDB and Firestore modelled around the access patterns, with partition keys, indexes and expiry rules decided before the data arrives and schema validation on writes.

  • Platform moves and upgrades

Oracle to PostgreSQL, on-premises SQL Server and MySQL to Azure SQL, Amazon RDS, Aurora or Cloud SQL, and old versions to current ones, rehearsed on copies with row counts and checksums reconciled before cut-over.

  • Security and encryption

Least-privilege logins and roles, row-level security, auditing, and Always Encrypted or column encryption for personal and financial data, with credentials kept in a vault.

  • Caching, search and wide-column stores

Redis and Valkey for caching, sessions and queues, Elasticsearch and OpenSearch for full-text search, and Cassandra or ScyllaDB for write-heavy data spread across regions, each sized and monitored like the primary database.

  • Analytical and time-series databases

ClickHouse for event and log analytics over billions of rows, TimescaleDB and InfluxDB for sensor and metrics data, and read replicas or columnstore indexes when reporting slows the transactional database.

Hire database developers and DBAs

  • Dedicated database developers and DBAs

Database developers and DBAs who join your team full time, work in your tools and process, and report to your lead. You interview them; we carry the Ukrainian contract, payroll, invoicing and leave.

  • Database development projects

A defined piece of database development with a scope, a fixed plan and a named lead on our side who owns the result and reports progress in your channels.

  • Ongoing database development

Database development as a continuing service: the same people every month, a backlog you prioritise, and hours you can see in our portal and on the invoice.

The dedicated team page explains how specialists join your team, and the outsourcing page covers project delivery, take-overs and how we charge.

Who works on your database development

  • Database developers

    Schemas, T-SQL, PL/SQL and PL/pgSQL

  • Database administrators

    Performance, backups, availability and access

  • Backend engineers

.NET, Java, Python and Node.js data access

  • Data engineers

    Analytical stores and reporting replicas

  • Cloud and DevOps engineers

    Managed databases in Terraform

How we work on databases

The database is code. Tables, indexes and security policies change through reviewed migrations, logins and grants are declared in source control, managed instances are defined in Terraform, and tests run against a real database engine in a container rather than a mock.

Production is handled with care: access is least privilege and time-limited through your own accounts, every change is rehearsed on a copy with masked data first, and nothing is run by hand that a migration can do.

Questions about database development

Which databases do you work on?

Relational: SQL Server and Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB, and Oracle. NoSQL: MongoDB, Azure Cosmos DB, Amazon DynamoDB, Cassandra and Redis. Search and analytics: Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, ClickHouse and TimescaleDB. Self-hosted or managed on Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.

Which industries do your database developers work in?

Fintech, for ledgers, payment and transaction stores and their reporting; AI and data products, for analytical stores and vector search; e-commerce and retail, for catalogues, orders and inventory; enterprise SaaS and ERP, for multi-tenant schemas and reporting; healthcare, for patient records with auditing and encryption; and logistics, for tracking and routing data.

Can you put our existing database under source control?

Yes. The current schema is captured as a baseline, in a SQL Server database project or with Flyway or Liquibase, and from then on every change is a reviewed migration that runs in the pipeline, so production matches what is in the repository.

Can you move us off Oracle?

Yes, usually to PostgreSQL. Schema and PL/SQL are converted with tooling such as ora2pg and finished by hand, data is moved in rehearsed runs reconciled table by table, and the application’s queries are tested against the new engine before the cut-over date is set.

How quickly can database developers and DBAs start?

When the right database developer is available, the start is gated only by your interview and the NDA and IP assignment. Otherwise we run a search, which typically produces candidate profiles within two to three weeks, and nobody starts until you have said yes.

How do we hire database developers and DBAs through BigTree108?

Tell us the work, the seniority and the hours you need. We propose one or two people with their profiles, you interview them the way you would interview your own hire, and you sign one agreement with BIG TREE 108 LLC and receive one invoice a month.

Who owns the work they produce?

You do. Every specialist has a signed contract with BigTree108 that assigns all work product to the company, and our agreement with you assigns it onward. Code, designs and documents are delivered into your own repositories and tools, not kept where only we can change them.

Have a database that needs work?

Tell us the engine, the version and what has to change. You get an answer within one business day: a plan, candidate profiles, or a review of where to start.
