Database development and administration

Database development and administration services for PostgreSQL, SQL Server and Azure SQL, Oracle and MongoDB: schema design and SQL, query tuning, high availability and backups, version upgrades, cloud databases and migrations between engines. Dedicated developers and DBAs for your team, projects delivered end to end, and take-overs of databases other teams built.

Databases we work on

Each page covers the work we take on, the ways to work with us and the questions clients ask first. MySQL, Redis, Cassandra, ClickHouse and other engines are covered on our database development page.

The same rules on every engine

One DBA in your team or a whole database function: schema design and SQL, performance, availability and backups, upgrades, security, and moves between engines or into the cloud, on PostgreSQL, SQL Server and Azure SQL, Oracle and MongoDB, self-hosted or managed.

The database is treated as code. Schema changes are reviewed migrations applied by the pipeline, tests run against a real engine in a container, managed instances are defined in Terraform, and credentials come from a vault. Personal and financial data is encrypted where it is sensitive and masked outside production.

A take-over starts with read-only access and a written list of risks, before anyone changes anything. We have inherited nine systems from other teams so far, the oldest written in 2008, and the same first step applies to a database.

Questions about database development and administration

Which databases do you work on?

PostgreSQL, SQL Server and Azure SQL, Oracle and MongoDB, each with a page of its own, and MySQL and MariaDB, Redis and Valkey, Cassandra, Elasticsearch and OpenSearch, ClickHouse and Azure Cosmos DB as well. Self-hosted, on Kubernetes, or managed on Azure, AWS, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Which industries do your database developers and DBAs work in?

Mostly fintech, banking and insurance, AI and data products, e-commerce and retail, enterprise software and ERP, and healthcare, followed by logistics, telecom, manufacturing and energy, and media and consumer apps. Each page describes what the work looks like in those industries.

Do you need administrator access to our production database?

Not to start. A review begins with read-only access through an account you create and can revoke. Changes arrive as migrations your team reviews, and any elevated access is time-limited, granted through your own identity provider and removed when the work ends.

Can your DBAs support our databases around the clock?

Yes, during your working hours or around the clock. Before support starts we agree the hours covered, the response time for each severity and the escalation path into your team, and every alert that can wake someone has a runbook beside it.

Who owns the schemas, scripts and code you write?

You do. Every specialist has a signed contract with BigTree108 that assigns all work product to the company, and our agreement with you assigns it onward. Code, designs and documents are delivered into your own repositories and tools, not kept where only we can change them.

Have a database that needs a specialist?

Tell us the engine, the version, where it runs and what has to change. You get an answer within one business day: a plan, candidate profiles, or a scope for a review of your database.
