What is an MCP server?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard for connecting AI applications to tools and data. An MCP server describes your system’s actions and data once, and every MCP client, including Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Cursor and Visual Studio Code, can then use them.
Do we need an MCP server if we already have a REST API?
The API stays. The MCP server sits on top of it and presents your capabilities in the form AI clients understand, usually as fewer, task-shaped tools than the API has endpoints, with sign-in that works from inside those clients.
Which language do you build MCP servers in?
The one your team maintains: TypeScript, Python, C# and Java all have official SDKs. Our largest practice is .NET, so C# servers on Azure are a natural fit for companies built on Microsoft.
