Embedded and hardware development

Embedded and hardware development services: embedded software, firmware, FPGA, hardware and PCB design, IoT systems, device testing and robotics software for consumer electronics and wearables, industrial automation, automotive, telecom and networking, smart home and security systems, energy, medical devices, agriculture and logistics. Dedicated engineers for your team or projects delivered end to end, with the cloud, web and mobile side built by our own .NET, Python, front-end and mobile engineers.

Embedded and hardware services

Each page covers what we build, the ways to work with us and the questions clients ask first.

Markets we build for

  • Consumer electronics and wearables

Battery-powered devices, wearables, audio products and appliances with companion apps, where cost per unit, battery life and an easy first setup decide the product.

  • Industrial automation

Controllers, sensors and gateways that speak Modbus, OPC UA, EtherCAT or PROFINET, and the software that connects machines to MES and maintenance systems.

  • Automotive and mobility

ECU firmware on Classic AUTOSAR, infotainment and digital cockpits, driver-assistance sensor processing, telematics units, CAN and diagnostic tools, and controllers for e-bikes and e-scooters.

  • Telecom and networking

Routers, gateways, firewalls and access points on OpenWrt, prplOS or RDK-B, packet processing in software and in FPGA logic, and timing and radio equipment for 5G networks.

  • Smart home, building and security

Matter, Thread and Zigbee devices for the home, BACnet and KNX integration for heating, ventilation and lighting in commercial buildings, and alarm, access control and video products.

  • Energy and metering

Smart meters on DLMS/COSEM and M-Bus, solar inverter, battery storage and battery management controllers, and electric vehicle chargers and charging networks on OCPP 2.0.1 and 2.1.

  • Medical and health devices

Monitoring, diagnostic and wellness devices built inside your quality management system, with the traceability and risk records IEC 62304 and ISO 14971 ask for.

  • Agriculture

Field and soil sensors on LoRaWAN, ISOBUS controllers for tractors and implements, and automation for greenhouses and livestock buildings.

  • Logistics tracking

GNSS and cellular trackers for pallets, containers and vehicles, cold-chain temperature loggers, and Bluetooth tags for indoor location.

The same rules on the device as in the cloud

Reproducible builds in containers, tests on every change and on real hardware before a release, zero warnings, kernels and dependencies on maintained releases with security advisories treated as unconditional upgrades, signing keys in a vault rather than on a laptop, and a software bill of materials from every build. Zero warnings, current releases and unconditional security upgrades are rules we already run our own systems by; here they apply to software that ships in a box.

Hardware work runs inside your process: your quality management system and safety process for medical, automotive and other regulated products, your contract manufacturer for production, and an accredited laboratory of your choice for certification testing. Everything we design or write is delivered into your repositories and assigned to you.

Software for machines we never touch

We write Rust for our own desktop software: an agent that checks Windows, macOS and Ubuntu laptops against our security baseline, with every check mapped to ISO 27001, CIS, Cyber Essentials, Essential Eight and SOC 2, and a time-tracking desktop app. It is not firmware, but it shares firmware’s constraints: one codebase cross-checked for every target platform, running unattended on machines its developers never see, and released only from main with a pinned toolchain. Read about our Rust work.

Questions about embedded and hardware development

Which markets do you build for?

Consumer electronics and wearables, industrial automation, automotive and mobility, telecom and networking, smart home, building and security systems, energy and metering, medical and health devices, agriculture and logistics tracking. For medical devices, vehicles and industrial safety functions we work inside your quality management system and safety process: your procedures, design controls, risk file and safety case, with the traceability that IEC 62304 and ISO 14971, ISO 26262 and Automotive SPICE, or IEC 61508 ask for kept as the work happens rather than reconstructed before an audit. Certification and the regulatory file stay with you as the manufacturer.

How do engineers in Ukraine work on our hardware?

Hardware reaches the engineer in one of two ways: development kits and prototype boards are sent to them, or they work on a rack in your lab through remote power switching, a debug probe and a serial console over your VPN. Either way the build runs in your pipeline and the code lives in your repositories. Most of the code is tested on the build machine and on emulated hardware first, so time on the real board goes on what only the board can show.

Can one team build the device, the cloud and the app?

Yes. Firmware, embedded software and hardware specialists work beside our own .NET and Python engineers on Azure, Angular and React engineers on the web portal, and iOS, .NET MAUI and React Native engineers on the companion app, all against one set of message contracts.

Who owns the designs, firmware and code you produce?

You do. Every specialist has a signed contract with BigTree108 that assigns all work product to the company, and our agreement with you assigns it onward. Code, designs and documents are delivered into your own repositories and tools, not kept where only we can change them.
